OUR VISION
The vision for Columbia Foursquare Church is to
• exalt the Lord our God,
• edify and equip the believers and
• extend the kingdom of God.
We accomplish this vision by loving God through worship, prayer and personal/corporate obedience; loving one another through small groups and service; and loving our neighbor through various avenues of personal, community and global outreach. We desire to be a soul-winning, disciple-making church under the direction of Jesus Christ.
The premise for accomplishing our goals is relationship: to love God, to love one another and to love our neighbor. The small group serves as the basic unit or cell of our church body where this love takes place. We compliment the small group dynamic with training in the form of an equipping track, which includes leadership classes: levels one, two and three. Periodic retreats occur between the sessions, beginning with the Encounter Retreat.
Ultimately, every person in our church becomes a leader, a person of influence for the kingdom of God. We seek to win, consolidate, disciple and send. Each one attends a small group (a cell). When an individual leads a group, they become part of a group of 12 (an intense discipleship/leadership group) for the purpose of fulfilling Jesus' Great Commission to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). Come, join us on the
HISTORY OF COLUMBIA FOURSQUARE CHURCH
Columbia Foursquare Church was founded in 1981 by Pastor David Lanning and his wife, Pam. A former scientist and engineer, David connected with the scientific community in Richland. The new church met for several years in the Community Center until they purchased the current parcel of land. The congregation spent nearly five years remodeling an existing structure that served previously as a neighborhood supermarket, TV store, and a meat locker.
Pastor Jon Brandstetter and his wife, Candy, came to Richland in August of 1993. Two months after their arrival, the newly remodeled church burned to the ground. Over the next three years, the congregation met in the Richland Seventh-day Adventist Church while constructing a $2.2 million dollar facility.
The church moved into the current building in the fall of 1996 and has served the neighborhood and community with the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ ever since.
The church has experienced several sovereign movements of God in the intervening years. For nearly five years, Columbia Foursquare hosted a trans-denominational youth church, called "The River," that attracted up to 500 young people every week.
We are currently pursuing a cell church model of ministry frequently referred to as Groups of 12 or G-12. It is an exciting small group strategy for leadership development and evangelism. Our vision is to win souls and make disciples in the context of loving God, loving one another, and loving the lost.
